Kevin McCabe: Boo Hoo
Here is an old friend of mine from the Mid-Craigie area of Dundee called Kevin McCabe. He tells the story in poetic rhyme of where he wants to be and what goes on
inside his soul, body and mind
A very powerful performance indeed, filmed in and around the Dundee area in 2007 by Steve Johnstone.
The Edinburgh Festival etc would benefit from having people
with this much talent so if any organizers or influential people are reading this, then do yourself a favour and drop Kid Candle an e-mail at:
and let Kevin do the talking
He is also available for work so please give this very rare talent a wee break and make a middle-age man feel very happy indeed!
Mark Thompson: The Dealer
Here is a superb new poem from Mark Thompson called The Dealer. Filmed by Willie Hoolachan on a freezing cold evening in March 2010 at a secret location near Beverly Hills,
Tinsel Town. Two men, one video camera and one superb performance that will simply blow you away.
This former door to door duster seller from St. Mary's, explains in the best way possible, how he deals in words, vowels, adjectives and how he get his kicks out the next word he is predicting. This performance may earn Mark Thompson an Oscar at my Golden Globe Awards Cermony which will be taking place in Lochee High Street 01-04-2010.
Mark Thompson: Dead Pan
This short poem from Mark Thompson, who grew up in the St Marys of Dundee, is quite gripping and tells what I think is going through his mind
I wouldn't like to be on the receiving end of one of Marks' left hooks, so I will better write something nice and not slag his 1989 mullet hairdo!
Another great wee find from Wullie Spielberg for hoolywoodproductions.com
Kevin McCabeLadies and gentlemen, it gives me great pleasure to introduce you to 2 very talented chaps from the City of Discovery. First up, Kevin McCabe aka Kid Candle. Kevin was born in Maryfield Hospital, Dundee in 1961 and brought up in the notorious Mid-Craigie housing scheme. He was educated at 5 different primary schools before attending St Saviours High where he was supposed to spend four years but dropped out after only two. He tells me he watched these first couple of years staring out the metal framed windows at the birds in the trees
Currently unemployed, Kevin spends many hours devoting his spare time as a volunteer helping out at the Art Angel Centre in the city centre for people with mental health issues. His poems, which I have added to my website for the world to see, surely deserve their place in Hoolywood so please sit down, relax and enjoy the very special talent of Kevin McCabe aka Kid Candle.
Mark Thomson Another fine poet from the City of Discovery is Mark Thomson, who was born in Dundee in 1967 and raised in St. Marys. He attended Ardler Primary before moving onto Rockwell High School, where he tells me he left with no qualifications. Now in his 40's and living in Kirriemuir, which is only a short drive north of Dundee, Mark is now a well established freelance poetry teacher.
In 2007 Mark was invited over to China (all expenses paid) to teach the Chinese all about Scottish poetry, how strange is that? It really is true. In 2008 he went on a wee tour of 10 Scottish prisons where he was so successful, he was invited back on the 18th of December in the same year to Polmont prison, where he warmed up for another well known Scottish band called Glasvegas. Below are some videos of Mark doing what he does best - belting out his style of poetry in unforgettable fashion - enjoy!
I only met this charming young man on Thursday 21st of May 2009 for the first time, and after our 'wee agm' at my house in Clement Park, we soon headed off into the sun where I filmed Mark down at Invergowrie Bay doing what he does best - belting out his style of poetry in unforgettable fashion. To get in touch or hear more of this Dundee Street Poet, simply click on the street poet links below.
Selected in the box below is just a few of Kevin McCabe aka Kid Candle's poems, which are now available for viewers in HOOLYWOOD to listen to for the first time all you have to do is scroll down until you find the poem you want to hear, then simply turn up the volume and enjoy!
Here is a selection of poems from Mark's cd called Bard Fae Thi Buildin Site. This disc was delivered to me by stork and flew in from Kirriemuir after I asked Mark for a copy for HOOLYWOOD now that's what you call service folks!
